Pittsburgh has many blog websites but we love to visit Pittsburgh Bloggers website because they have so many categories of blogs about our wonderful region.  We encourage you to look into the wonderful things written by people who live in our region.  Another great thing about Pittsburgh Bloggers Website is that if you want to be listed there you have to live in Southwestern Pennsylvania.  Well we will stop here for today but go ahead and look at what some fellow Pittsburghers are saying and writing about out city.

African American Life In Pittsburgh

I have spent the last several months researching all the things happening in the Greater Pittsburgh area.  I have come to realize how segmented our region really is and how that is keeping many of us from experiencing the great social life this area has to offer.

Being an African American man I really wanted to see what the region offered for African Americans.  Initially I could not find much beyond a few clubs or bars and the typical parties but after more extensive research I have come to realize our region offers a great deal for any culture if your willing to search it out.

When I got involved in "What's Happening In Pittsburgh" it was for the very reason that finding events and places to go that covered all races, nationalities and religions was not easy to do in the Greater Pittsburgh area.  We have been so segmented and I believe we are missing the great things offered in this city.  On our Website we have not listed events based upon race, creed or nationality, but we have chosen to simply list what is happening by region and category.

I want my African American brothers and sisters to know that this city represents us well.  There is much to do here and get involved in.  We have great churches that put on great events, we have great civic organization, we have great clubs, bars and parties, we have great comedy and arts events and they are tailored to the African American Community.   We may only be 13% of the region but we are well represented here and we should be involved and committed to supporting the great events offered in our region.

I also would challenge you to consider looking at what the city has to offer period.  There are so many great places to see and events to attend on a weekly basis.  I hope you will stop pass the website many times and experience the best Greater Pittsburgh has to offer.

I hope you will enjoy the rest of Black History month and will learn some of the fascinating things African Americans have done in our world and in our region.  We are well represented and only need to be well informed.  Have a great day and make a difference by the life you live.

What"s Happening to us

When I look at the news today and saw the funeral for the slain 15 year old Hadiya Pendleton my heart really sunk.  I really wonder how many of us have gotten so accustomed to people being killed before they are 20 years old that her death was a shock but not enough to cause us to look inward to discover what really matters to us.

Hadiya was a honor student and majorette from he Chicago, IL. school.  She died after taking a trip to Washington D.C. to participate in events surrounding the Presidents Inauguration.  After the events were over and her team heading back to Chicago she arrived only to be killed before she really had a chance to live.

I really wonder what is happening to us when we get used to death and murder.  I wonder what is happening to us when we can turn on the news about such things and go right to the next movie.  Some of us don't stop to reflect, stop to pray, nor stop to care.  Her family and so many others prepared to mourn her passing and for so many of us life just goes on.

Hadiya Pendleton

Here in Pittsburgh we have seen so many Hadiya's dying too early too.   I am from Homestead, Pa. and on the street where I grew up Police sit there everyday because so many have gotten shot in that area. When someone dies there is news for a day or two then we all go back to normal. We have been so desensitized and man of us don't realize how much we have lost.  I only wanted to write this so we would not forget Hadiya and the hundreds who have died before her before they ever lived.

We should be looking for things to do in our city that bring us together.  I recently participated in a start-up business called What's Happening In Pittsburgh and I felt to title this "What's Happening to us" because my business is all about giving people options.  We list events and things to do today in the city.  I wish the man who killed Hadiya had a life that was full and saw a reson to let everyone else life.  I hope you have a life and when you consider our city you will find something productive to do tonight, tomorrow and everyday after.  We cannot forget this young lady and we must pray that the people who do not value life with have an inner awakening to the reality that it is worth living and people deserve to live out theirs.

Hadiya Pendleton, gone but not forgotten, not even in Pittsburgh

LIVING in PIttsburgh?

Many people have an address in Pittsburgh or the Greater Pittsburgh area.  Tonight I was thinking of the reality of living in Pittsburgh but not LIVING in Pittsburgh.  I have noticed over the years that many people have various ideas about our area and how hard it is to make it in Pittsburgh but I have come to realize LIVING is a decision.

I wanted to briefly tell you tonight how your decision to LIVE is just that, YOURS.  You can LIVE, even in PIttsburgh.  You can actually LIVE well and happy in Pittsburgh just like any other city.  LIVING is all about perspective.  If you believe you cannot LIVE her then LIVING will be difficult and seemingly impossible.  However, if you decide that LIVING is your only option then you can and will LIVE.  You must love LIVING and refuse anything else.  Well have a great night and great day Tomorrow.  Get up and LIVE.
